Diving in Sorsogon
There are dive sites all over the Philippines, but it is only in Sorsogon that one will experience diversity and a deep sense of beauty that is unmatched anywhere else. Of the numerous dive sites in Sorsogon, the following are among the ones that should not be passed over.
Donsol
Mention diving in the Philippines, and Donsol will definitely be one of the first ones that will be mentioned.
Donsol is a small town some 40 miles (66 km) form Sorsogon City.
Once you get to the spot, you will be able to go to the beach and dive sites, and while there are plenty of attractions, it is the butanding (whale shark) that is on everybodys mind. Diving into its clear will reveal several hidden attractions, but it is still the whale shark that most will look out for.
Dancalan Beach
A diving site in Sorsogon that is gaining prominence is Dancalan Beach, which is just off Barcelona.
The waters of Dancalan Beach are not that deep, making it ideal for those new to scuba diving or snorkeling. By diving into the waters, you will see plenty of different types of marine creatures and also some of the most diverse kinds of coral reefs anywhere.
Manta Bowl
Very near the town of Bulan is a dive site called Manta Bowl, one of the most picturesque diving sites in the province.
Manta Bowl derives its name from the large number of manta rays that frolic in its waters. There are several whale sharks and there are also a wide array plankton near the corals.
Matnog Island
Some of the best diving and snorkeling centers can be found in the islands that comprise Matnog in Sorsogon.
Getting there involves taking a ferry and island hopping. Tikling Island is one of them, which has some of the finest sands of all the islands, with the waters beneath it also having several kinds of sea shells. There are also different types of fish there.
Rizal Beach
Some 25 miles (40 km) from Sorsogon City is the small town of Gubat, where Rizal Beach can be found.
Rizal Beach is primarily known for its pristine white sand, and there are also some resorts nearby. Lately however, it has become one of the most popular dive sites in Sorsogon. Because it is a spot that is not visited often by divers, you can have most of the brilliant underwater world to yourself.
Calintaan Island
Calintaan Island is a favorite of Sorsogon dive site aficionados, and is another of the lands that make up the Matnog group of islands.
The island itself is renowned for its impressive rock formations and caves, but it is the waters around it that grab attention, mainly due to its vast underground caves and other imposing rock promontories.
Subic Island
Of the islands in Matnog, Subic distinguishes itself by being the only one with pinkish sands, earning it the moniker La Playa Rosa (the Rose Beach).
Aside from the pink sands, this Sorsogon dive site is also highly valued for the coral reefs around it, which are populated by some of the most exotic and diverse aquatic life forms in the continent.
Tolong Gapo Beach
Tologn Gapo, whose name signifies three stones, is a scant 15 minutes away from the city, making it one of the easiest Sorsogon dive sites to reach.
The white sand that encompasses Tolong Gapo is popular among tourists, and today it is becoming a hotbed for scuba diving activity, owing to the number of colorful fish in its waters.
Dive Shops in Sorsogon
The rapid growth of the diving industry has spawned a dive shop/center industry, and for tourists and first time visitors, finding a shop dedicated to this activity will not be difficult, as every one of the beaches/diving sites listed here are surrounded by facilities dedicated to helping people get the most out of their experience.
